Introduction to Alignment

The workshop is an introduction to key concepts of alignment that are taught in the Teacher Trainings of Athens Yoga and in everyday classes.
Workshop will include detailed demonstration, focused practice and discussion. The participants will learn:
-to apply the alignment principles in all the asanas and how to improve their movement and posture in everyday life.
-to move safely during their yoga practice and to help their body heal through the right posture.
-to deepen their awareness and experience in yoga.
This workshop is ideal for new and older students who want to know more on the alignment principles, who have questions that they cannot address during the daily classes, or are looking for inspiration to evolve their yoga practice. You can come to all the 3-day workshop or any sessions you choose.
The workshop is strongly recommended to those who will participate to any of the Teacher Trainings at Athens Yoga (200 or 300 hours) and are not acquainted with this particular alignment.
20.10.17 Friday evening (19:00 – 21:30): Introduction - Awareness in practice and how to recognize the optimal alignment in asanas
21.10.17 Saturday morning (8:00 – 10:30): The position and the importance of the foundation in different asana categories
21.10.17 Saturday noon (12:30 – 15:00): Stira Sukham Asanam – stability and freedom: two essential ingredients for a balanced pose in yoga and in life
22.10.17 Sunday morning (9:00 – 11:30): Pelvis expansion and the essential muscular limits to elongate and relieve your lumbar spine
22.10.17 Sunday noon: (13:00 – 15:30): Shoulders and head alignment in basic poses
Per session: €25 + VAT

About Anna Petropoulou, E-RYT 200 & YACEP
Anna teaches hatha, prenatal, partner and restorative yoga. Her first contact with yoga was random- somewhere between dance and gymnastics. In 2010 she started a systematic practice in Athens Yoga Center which led her to participate in the teacher's training in 2012. She trained in Hatha Yoga with Anusara elements of alignment with Maja Zilih. In 2013 she trained in Partner Yoga with Elysabeth Wiliamson, Yoga Therapy and alignment with Maja Zilih and Yoga Therapy with Martin Kirk through webinars. In May 2015 she trained in Prenatal Yoga with Sue Elkind. In October 2015 she also trained in Chakra Yoga with Anodea Judith. Τhis year Anna starts another circle of 300 Hour Advanced Studies Teacher Training program with Maja Zilih and Athens Yoga Center.
Anna's teaching focuses on alignment and draws inspiration from everyday life, indian philosophy and mythology. She has a regular practice and she continues studying and training. She participates as an assistant to the Teacher Training programs of Athens Yoga and has taught in workshops and seminars. She has attended seminars, workshops and lessons with Michael Stone, Martin Kirk, John Friend, Todd Tesen, Carlos Pomeda, Vicki Howie, Rachel Lowe, Jay Martin, Alesandro Ortonan and others. In early 2013 she started teaching voluntarily to friends at KETHEA and since then she teaches regularly, mostly with AthensYogis and at festivals. Anna is a surveying engineer and internet radio producer.
